- Erik ten Hag has rallied around his key player and backed him to score ahead of Brentford clash
Erik ten Hag firmly believes in Marcus Rashford to turn his goal drought around as Manchester United prepares to face Brentford on Saturday afternoon.
United are struggling this season despite having a successful campaign in ten Hag's first season, ending the club's six-year trophy drought with the Carabao Cup.
This season has seen quite some changes and additions to the squad, but results have not been forthcoming, and United have lost six out of their last 10 games.
Rashford is at the centre of criticism for the team's poor form, having scored just once this season, the only goal in the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in September.
Ten Hag backs Rashford
Per Transfermarkt, the English winger scored 30 goals in 56 games for the Red Devils last season, most of which came in the second half after the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
He is yet to make an impact this season and is struggling in front of goal, which has drawn criticisms and calls for the manager to drop him. Speaking ahead of the visit of Brentford, as quoted by Daily Star, the Dutch tactician rallied around the forward.
“It’s normal you are not always right at the same levels. Everyone knows his qualities; if Rashy does things right and the team does, it’s up to him. We have seen in the last weeks he is coming in good positions; he is struggling, but it will pass,” he said.
“Everyone at Man United backs him. The whole team supports him and believes in him. I am sure with that it will change, and this will pass... When he is doing the right things, and he is doing the right things, the momentum will come, and he will be on fire.”
